History of Built To Last Woodworking

My name is Tim Little, and I am the owner of Built To Last Woodworking. I opened my own shop in 1991 with the desire to build beautiful furniture and cabinets that will last for generations. At a time when it seemed that most shops were trying to cut corners, I wanted to put quality first and do it with a creative flair. The only way I could do this was to have personal control over the design and construction of each project.

I first learned to work wood in high school when I had the opportunity to take some classes building musical instruments; I made a Mountain Dulcimer and an Aolian wind harp.

After high school, I put myself through college working in custom cabinet shops. I received a degree in Biology, but still found myself in the wood shop making things for friends and myself.

Needing to earn a living, I took a job at a shop that built custom bars and millwork for restaurants and nightclubs. A desire to live in the Northwest led me to leave that company and find work in the custom coach industry in Oregon. My experience soon led to my teaching and supervising other woodworkers in a rapidly expanding RV market. This was all good, but I wasn’t doing much woodworking of my own, so I started Built To Last Woodworking.

From the beginning, I have built my business on a foundation of quality craftsmanship, functional design, and creative beauty. I have built a variety of projects from commercial display cases and bars, to entertainment centers, bookcases, and kitchen cabinets for residences. Most of my projects are custom designs that I have crafted from my clients’ dreams and desires.

In 2005, I became a local dealer of Canyon Creek Cabinets. I was looking for ways to satisfy a broader range of clients, beyond those who could afford to have me build custom cabinets. I visited Canyon Creek to see if I could stand behind their cabinets, coming from a custom-built background.
